Smoking and the licensed trade

home page smokerWhile total bans on smoking are still relatively uncommon, restrictions on smoking in public places are becoming more popular all over the world.

In fact the majority of European Governments have agreed laws, which provide choice and accommodation for both smokers and non-smokers through exemptions for the licensed trade, the provision of separate smoking and non-smoking areas or separately ventilated rooms.

Smoking bans in 'public places' are now covering the whole of UK. 'The Law'.

How we can help
AIR works with trade associations, pub and restaurant groups, suppliers to the industry and others to provide information and tools that help operators of licensed premises to improve facilities for smoking and non-smoking customers, and staff.

AIR can provide free advice and assistance to help licensed premises to reduce the impact on their businesses and potentially profit from smoking bans.

On this site

The AIR initiative was launched in 1997 to identify and promote practical techniques to resolve the public smoking issue in the hospitality industry. Our aim is to improve the environment for staff and customers and to develop a better, cleaner and more profitable future for all.
