Overview
Even with the tight legislation on smoking in the United Kingdom, some indoor places are exempt, such as residential homes and prisons. In these cases there may still be concerns over exposure to Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS). This section highlights the techniques that you can use to produce an acceptable environment for all.
Common ways of measuring whether air quality is acceptable are to:
• Maintain a level of less than 1000 parts per million (ppm) of carbon dioxide
• Ensure that worker exposure to ETS constituents is in line with the HSE’s workplace exposure limits
• Ensure that 80% of occupants are not uncomfortable
