The best and most comfortable outdoor areas could gain you lots of new custom – and not just from smokers. Though wooden benches and tables are easy to look after and very hard wearing, it might be worth investigating other more comfortable materials – even consider sofas and quality furnishings more suited to an 'indoor' situation.

Whilst you must make sure that the furniture is protected from the rain and frost in Winter, using furnishings similar to those you have indoors will integrate the two areas so that going outside is no longer a 'punishment'. Used alongside good heating and lighting, these types of areas will fast become the most popular place to be all year round.

TIP - For a cheap but effective way to 'bring the indoors out', paint your outdoor walls the same colour as the inside of your premises, fix some shelving to a solid part of your construction and provide bar stools which match the furnishings you use inside.
