For those who prefer something simple and quick, there are companies producing total solutions that provide all the necessary articles for an effective outdoor space without you needing shop around.

Awnings with 'add ons'
For substantially landlocked premises awnings can be the best option. Most companies will simply add on a heater, light and even a security camera for you as an all in one solution. For those who cannot afford to buy everything now you can install the awning while the weather is fine and add the other parts as you are able.

Purpose built shelters
Many offices and hospitals already use bus shelters for smokers and, if you have a suitable place, they are a quick, simple and sturdy solution. Using the same techniques, new, purpose built smoking shelters are now also available.

Remember many existing shelters do not comply with the UK regulations. Make sure the correct wall opening is used.

Gazebos
Solid gazebos and summer houses can make great shelters for your customers but, for those who need something to ‘tide them over’ till permissions are granted, a standard temporary gazebo might be the answer.

You can find these very cheaply at most garden centres and DIY stores, but remember – they are not designed to survive the rigours of winter and the DIY variety is almost certain to blow away in strong wind. Use these only as a temporary solution or seek advice from a professional provider.
